How sad is it that someone would attack others based on the color of their skin, their religious beliefs or what country they are from?
We truly live in a post 9/11 world.

I also packaged up my samples as part of my show application for the SrampSCrapArt convention here the last weekend of March. It will be my first convention show and I am both apprehensive and excited about it. Excited because it has the potential to bring a lot of new customers to the store, apprehensive because it's a lot of money to put out on a gamble at a bad time in the economy.
As Rob says, "gotta spend a little to make a little" so we'll see!
I know, I know, I still owe you the layout I did Thursday night using Tinsel Town... I'm teaching the make up classs tonight from last week's snow out, but tomorrow I will have more time to take a picture and post. I've already seen one submission for the contest and was blown away (way to go Brenda!)

The new Queen & Co embellishments are topping the list. I think I will definately have to stock some of those!
What to do? I've already received orders for the Tinsel Town paper for people trying for the contest... but who wants to win an (in my honest opinion) a not so great prize, right? I think I am going to change the prize then. I've just ordered a new line that's simply stunning and I will offer that as the prize instead. Stay tuned- I'll announce it when my Feb newsletter goes out. (I don't want to post the new product on the web until I actually have it in hand).
I am going scrapbooking tomorrow and am so excited! I haven't scrapbooked since before the baby was born. 10 weeks is a long time to go without scrapbooking...I'm in withdrawal!!! I did dosome altered art items, including some really cute doodlebug photo cubes for the kid's teachers for Christmas, but that's not the same, is it?
So tonight is organization night. I'm going to go through and pick some pages to work on with Grace, Deb and one of their friends (yay! a new scrapbooking friend!). I'll post them Friday if I get a chance.

Surprise, surprise, sales are done from the first and second quarter. You wouldn't think this was a big deal except not only were they down, instead of up, it was a double blow in that the fall (October and November specifically) is usually the best time of the year. At least it has been for me.
Still, in this awful, terrible, rotten economy, I am hanging on, and that's all I have to do, just keep my head above water and make enough to pay the business loan until this "crisis is over" as they say on the news...
The fun part of the day? NEW PRODUCT! CHA, the Craft and Hobby Association, is having their winter trade show next week, and I am already getting emails from my sales rep of all the new things coming.
See something cool? Email it to me! Right now I am looking at new Bo Bunny, Pink Paislee and Fancy Pants Designs items. What else should I carry? Post it in comments!

I hate decisions like this. It seems so minor, but today's business is not only about finding new customers but hanging on to the ones you've got! Cancelling is a good way to develope a bad reputation. I hate to start a new precedent of cancelling class. OK, so going into labor early really was a good excuse for cancelling, but still.
The roads are starting to get really covered now. I better start calling to see how people feel.

I just finished loading the new Pink Paislee Tinsel Town line. I just love it and saw some great samples. (Hint: If you're reading this blog, you are getting advance notice of a contest which I will announce in my Feb newsletter.)
I love it so much, I want to see what people can do with it, so I am going to have a contest. Participants submit a layout or two using Tinsel Town. The winner gets a scrapbooking kit from Pink Paislee's new line, WinsomeCollection which will be released shortly. I'd love to see more people get involved in these kinds of contests, so hopefully this idea will take off.
Only rules are, page must be 85% Pink Paislee Tinsel Town or products from the Scrap with Shelby website. Don't Submit all entries until Midnight, Feb 28, 2009. Winner will be announced first week of March. Post in the comments section and also email it to me so I know who you are. Local participants may also show it to me at the store. Good Luck!

Realized last night Page design classes were missing from website - oops! Major goof. All fixed but it may be too late for the January class. Too bad, since it's the best class of 1st quarter. Sending out a supplementary newsletter offering a special giveaway drawing in hopes to draw more people to the January events. January is always so slow. It's hard to get people motivated...between the letdown of "after" Christmas and the winter blues...
Adding another crop to vendor on Feb 7th. It's a good cause, and maybe I can test some new product. Not sure what I can do about breastfeeding Noah. I can pump and leave milk behind, but how often will I have to leave the booth to pump? Can't be helped and I have to face it sooner or later, so might as well be sooner.
Off to add more new product to the website. Added about 25 items yesterday, would like to finish up the Notions order as well as the new Pink Paislee if I can. We'll see how much Noah will let me do. He's happily sucking on his fingers, so maybe!

Count, count count…Have been doing inventory for days. There must be an easier way to track this without investing in an expensive software package. And I mean seriously, as a one woman operation, could I really take the time to track over 800 products without spending all my time at a computer?
Will be so glad when the inventory is done. Then I can move on to the next bane of my existence…updating the web site. I suppose if I tracked all orders through the website that would solve the inventory problem. I guess it’s the thought of all that data entry when I go out to vendor at shows…and how would I handle the big shows at the convention center?
